PE and Sport at Warren Wood
Sport at Warren Wood is not just about PE and Dance lessons! As well as all pupils receiving 2 hours of timetabled sport each week, we also offer a range of extra-curricular opportunities.
We are a member of the Stockport Schools Sports Partnership which gives us the opportunity to participate in a range of competitions with other local schools throughout the year. Since joining the partnership in 2017 we have competed in gymnastics, Kwik cricket, netball, Tri Golf and athletics.
This year groups of pupils have also been trained as young leaders. We now have our KS2 Change4Life leaders who run lunchtime activities and games for our KS1 children. We also have a team of Year 6 Sports Ambassadors who assist the sports coaches with their lunchtime multi sports sessions as well has helping with whole school sports events such as Sports Day. New this year was our ‘Girls Active Team’ who have helped plan and set up an after school ‘Just Dance’ Club which has been a great success!
We offer a range of extra-curricular sports clubs. Many of these are delivered by Cheshire Primary Coaching team and include; boys and girls football, multi sports and dodgeball. We also have a weekly ‘Free for all’ club which offers a different sport each term and is linked to our competition calendar for the year.
We are also proud to be a Relax Kids primary school. Our EYFS and Year 1 children have weekly Relax Kids sessions in the library. These sessions include; movement and dance, fun and relaxation games, stretching, peer and self-massage, breathing exercises, positive affirmations and relaxation time. Relax Kids sessions offer our children many benefits such as improved self-esteem, concentration, imagination, resilience and optimism.
